Lanzarote, lies only just 110 Kms miles off the African coast, and is around 60Kms long and 20 wide, the island is well known for its very dry and mild climate with temperatures always between 21°C and 29°C year-round, there is little rainfall at any time of the year.

Like all the other Canary Islands, Lanzarote, was born from a volcano, the last major eruption, over a hundred years ago, have left parts of the island looking like the moons surface, you can even visit the 7Km long Atlantida tunnel the longest, volcanic tunnel in the world.
Despite all this volcanic activity, many of the beaches such as Papagayo, and Playa Blanca, are made up of beautiful white sand, nestling up to wonderfully clear and unpolluted Atlantic waters.
For over 30 years, the local authorities on the island, very wisely, have had very strict rules about banning such a unsightly development as high-rise buildings and large billboards, this control has served to make the island, a wonderfully unspoilt tourist destination, this control of the development means that there are few major hotels on the island, with most accommodation provided by good quality villas and apartments.
Restaurants, both local and international are plentiful and offer a wide variety both in types of food, surroundings, and price, seafood is a specialty of the island with a daily fresh fish a very popular choice. There are many places to go for nightlife on the island, the main centres are Puerto del Carmen around ‘Centro Atlantico’ on the ‘Avenida de las Playas’, and in the old town, Playa Blanca has and the Centro Comercial Papagayo, and at Costa Teguise there are many pubs and bars along the Avenida de Jabillo.
The island is home to a large theme park named Rancho, Texas Park, this is a wild west-based theme park, with an Indian village for small children to play in the Tepees and Canoes, a large nature park, with a wide variety of birds and animals, at night the Park hosts extremely popular country and western entertainment.
There are lots of other attractions on the island, including the Cactus Garden, created by a local artist, Mirador Del Rio has amazing views out across to La Graciosa Island, El Golfo is not place to play 18 holes but in fact a large volcanic crater filled with seawater. The Lanzarote Aquarium is the largest in the Canary Isles, Montañas del Fuego or Fire Mountains is a national park, with a volcanic lunar landscape, where you can witness demonstrations of just how hot the active volcano below is.
There is a lot to see and do on Lanzarote, or you could just laze away your days by the swimming pool, one of the many quality beaches in almost guaranteed sunshine.
