Antigua is a Caribbean island that happens to be part of the larger country known as Antigua and Barbuda. It is also sometimes referred to by its native name Wadadli which in the native language of the area roughly translates to the phrase ‘our own’. It has a population of around 68,000 almost half of which live in the capital city of St. John’s.

As you may have already guessed by reading this entry, tourism is one of the main money making services in Antigua and forms a very large bulk of the around $800 million GDP that Antigua has going for it. Of course, with the completion of the new holiday homes and the new telephone system around the turn of the century, tourism has progressively gotten easier for people to manage.
At the current moment in time, Antigua enjoys visits from around 500,000 tourists in a single calendar year. This number is steadily growing and therefore more jobs are being created within the economy. While foreign investment is certainly large in Antigua, creating all of the high quality facilities mentioned above, there are still a lot of lively native areas that you can visit should you so choose.
The main reason that people visit Antigua nowadays is because of its tropical Caribbean climate. This, combined with the beaches that are available for people to swim on and the forest trails that are available to hike on, make Antigua one of the better outdoor tourism areas for people to visit. Whether you are looking to laze around on the beach or indeed do more with yourself in an athletic fashion; Antigua is the place for you.
