Spain has a very long, established history of providing first class facilities for the golfing enthusiast; it is a Europe’s most popular location for golfing breaks and holidays. This is due to two factors, firstly the multiple, very high quality courses spread throughout the country in particular along the Mediterranean coast.

And secondly because of the excellent climate, especially in the cold winter months in the rest of the continent, Spain has a mild pleasant golfing climate. Andalucía, and Costa del Sol, this is a very popular golfing area because the winter weather is the best in mainland Europe. There are also the attractions of towns such as Marbella, and Estepona.
Here are details of just a few of the multitude of courses available. Alhaurin Golf Course, designed by Seve Ballesteros, in a spectacular, mountain settling, Estepona Golf located at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja mountains has large lakes, and is considered by many to be the best course on the Costa del Sol, and Marbella golf club is a very respected, Robert Trent Jones design, with sweeping fairways, and multiple bunkers.
The Costa Brava boasts great sunshine filled days, the magnificent, historic city of Marcelona and a wealth of diverse golfing venues; from here you can easily travel to very different types of course. Barcelona boasts the Greg Norman designed, El Prat Golf course with no less than 45 holes, you can also trip up to the Pyrenees and enjoy spectacular mountain courses such as the famous Fontanals, one of the best courses in the whole of Europe.
Catalunya lays claim to the world renowned PGA Golf de Cartalunya club. Costa Almeria has several great locations including Almerimar golf, which is just about as well known for its wildlife as its great golfing. In contrast, Desert Springs Golf Course is Europe’s only true desert golf club.
The courses throughout the coastal regions of Spain are never far away from the delights of the big city’s, resort towns and fishing villages that the Mediterranean part of Spain has in abundance, so satisfying the holiday needs of the golfer and the non golfing members of the family, is very easy.
Valencia has its wonderful coastal towns such as Olivia, which can easily be combined with any number of great courses within an easy, day, round trip distance. The Costa Tropical has many places to visit and stay including, Almunecar, with all its ancient charms, nearby are several courses including Club de Golf Los Maroriscos, a first class golfing attraction.
Anywhere along the long Spanish coast is not far from a quality golf destination, they are plentiful and of high quality and offer that all too elusive factor, good weather all year round, Spain is the definition of a golfers paradise.
