The little island of Antigua, is truly a slice of paradise, located close to its sister island Barbuda; they are often referred to as if they are one place, but that is not the case. Located in the Lesser Antilles islands, Antigua is quite different from its neighbour, while still being just this side heaven. Slightly less wild, and quieter, than its neighbour Barbuda.

However, it offers equally stunning scenery, not only on land, but also below the sea. The blinding white beaches are hot and palm tree lined, making them an excellent location for tanning or other idle beach pursuits.

Antigua is a Caribbean island that happens to be part of the larger country known as Antigua and Barbuda. It is also sometimes referred to by its native name Wadadli which in the native language of the area roughly translates to the phrase ‘our own’. It has a population of around 68,000 almost half of which live in the capital city of St. John’s.

As you may have already guessed by reading this entry, tourism is one of the main money making services in Antigua and forms a very large bulk of the around $800 million GDP that Antigua has going for it. Of course, with the completion of the new holiday homes and the new telephone system around the turn of the century, tourism has progressively gotten easier for people to manage.
