Murcia is one of great contrasts; it has the mass tourism of the Costa Blanca, with resorts well known to visitors such as Alicante. It has historic towns and villages including the capital of the region Murcia city.

Renting holiday villas and apartments in Spain
Mar Menor is unusual in that it is actually an inland sea, almost cut off from the Mediterranean by a long thin strip of land; this salt water lagoon is always popular with locals and tourists. Cartagena is a large historic costal city with many attractions, including the Cathedral and the adjoining, Castillo de la Concepcion with its commanding view across the city.
Another popular attraction is the Museo Naval a maritime museum. La Union 10 minutes from the city is an old mining town with several beautiful and unique Art Nouveau buildings. There are many small, quiet resort towns dotted along the coast, including La Azohia and Puerto Mazarron or Cabo de Palos, a still active fishing village, for those who prefer a more tranquil location.
Inland the main city of Murcia boasts many historic sites and attractions. The impressive Cathedral de Santa Maria dates back to the 15th century. The Almudi Palace and the Castle of Monteagudo both have a strong Moorish influence. There are also several museums and galleries in the city.
There are also many county attractions and activities such as good fishing in one of the several rivers, walking and mountain biking. Jumilla is the regions main wine producing area, so a must for wine buffs or those who just would like to visit a vineyard to find out how their favourite tipple is produced.
